Main site’s down again

The main site’s up and down, so here are my thoughts on the 2PM advisory:

-> Hurricane warnings are up in Horry and Georgetown counties now. Ernesto is now likely to be a minimal hurricane on landfall.
-> Ashley’s getting better but it appears that will be very short-lived as another round of squalls is on its way in. Rain’s picking up along with some wind…so the respite won’t last long.
-> The flash flood warning will continue for a while, I imagine, or at least until the tide goes out.

Stay tuned here for more info, and hopefully the main blog will be back soon.

Main site speed improving

The speed of the main site seems to be improving, so I won’t be here for now…

In case you forgot

High tide in T-minus 30 minutes…

Ashley going underwater

Another bout of heavy rain has arrived and is coming in semi-horizontally…this is a very heavy squall here. Winds are gusting with more strength and frequency. The rain’s so heavy I can barely see to the top of Rutledge Tower right now. Ashley Ave. has suddenly started to go underwater…I think these conditions will be with us until 5. We’ve accumulated almost two tenths of an inch in the last ten minutes and I can see that trend continuing upward for a while.

My barometer is plummeting…

It was hanging around 29.73 not more than 15 minutes ago…and it’s all the way down to 29.69 and continuing to fall. The center must be getting much closer to Charleston now.

The worst is yet to come?

It appears the worst is yet to come, if this radar image is any indication:

Check out that giant red blob just staring Charleston down. Also, the velocity imagery is quite impressive:

Some radar-indicated 50 knot gusts inland, it appears, north of here. There will be lulls but I suspect things will go downhill in a more permanent fashion soon.

Backup Blog

Welcome to Jared W. Smith, the Backup Blog. My host has had so many problems with stuff so I’m going to commission this as something of a backup if things just get too hairy at the mothership.
